is just......WANTable. Sure it's unsophisticated, simple and kinda slow, but I just sorta want one. So retro and cool. Will definitely consider one as maybe a 2nd car.

Man I dunno. Personally I never liked the early 5th gens much at all, now the late 5th gens, that's a different story. I've come really close to buying a late 5th gen several time.s

They aren't that bad, I've driven one a few times and it was plenty powerful. It will slip in the triple digits very quickly, even if you aren't trying to.

I think this design is better than the 2015.

Bullitt GT is best GT.

….. why not just get one as a first car? Its a mustang …..

I'm right there with you, I dig the front end on these.

Bought this in 2005. I had to order it since Ford screwed up their product mix and you couldn't find a GT on a dealer's lot. I sold it a couple of years ago when the price of used cars spiked and I could get what I considered a silly amount of money for it, but I still miss it.

I think this looks better:

Because it just is. And 'Murica

Ive always thought one of those with an LS3/T56 swap and some suspension work would be an awesome DD.

I'll take both
![]() 01/28/2015 at 21:20 |

it's so.......retro cool

monies. I'd need a v6 to be able to afford it, and I don't want a v6
![]() 01/28/2015 at 21:22 |

YOU CAN'T HAVE BOTH
![]() 01/28/2015 at 21:30 |

then I'll take the 5th gen

SO retro cool. I'm normally into German & Japanese stuff, but I recently discovered my inner mustang bro, and I think my next DD might have a live axle... what is happening to me?!?!

GT.........500???

Im more partial to the 6th gen myself. Showed my dad a used one I was looking at and he goes "is that a shelby?" which impressed me because he's not really much of a car guy but noticed the similiarities between the 5th gen Shelby and the 6th gen GT.

Mixes classic with modern in a more balanced way than the 15. Also, it looks less cluttered. To me anyway.

There is one in town here. I see it all the time. I'm not a Ford guy, or a Steve McQueen groupie, but I get a little stiff when I see it. There is also a previous gen version in town. Nice but no chub.

It just looks soo cheap to me. I see a couple every day, they haven't aged well.

My 07 GT. Done a few track days and it's no slouch. On track performance will outmatch the average drivers skill IMO. Apparently the solid rear axle is something I should be 'embarrassed' about but it is better then most give it credit for. I've had more than one driving instructor say the car handled better than expected after they drove it (maybe they say that to everyone but I choose to believe it was genuine). I would call it quick but not fast. I think it sounds better then it goes and really that's all that counts when your pulling onto an on-ramp or blipping on a downshift.

One of my favorite generations of mustang. So simple, so sophisticated. Clean lines, no unnecessary busy bullshit like the ones after it, just a nice clean line with a lovely sculpted understated greenhouse. Yet it gets constantly shat on for looking "boring"

I owned a V6 '08 with an auto.
With bolt on's and a tune. Thing is a very good car. I mean Look at it.
I love the V6's styling lines better then the GT Just cause the trim around the bottom on the car makes it look too big.

It really was a pretty clean looking design when it came out. I have a '13, and the later facelifts really did clutter it up a bit.

Au contraire. They've aged magnificently

Those are both 5th gen.
This is a sixth gen:

oh that's right. 5th gen got a refresh with the coyote engine and new face. 5.5 gen we'll call it.

Sure it's unsophisticated, simple and kinda slow
Compared to what? Just over 5 seconds 0-60 and mid 13 second quarter mile times were nothing to sneeze at when these came out and are still respectable today. The horsepower infusion that has occurred over the past decade in the US lends partly to the reception of this car and the aftermarket support it received. Plus they respond very well to forced induction. Heck, just retuning the computer software while doing nothing else does a lot.
You want the live axle that all the internet haters seem to knock to respond better then alleviate the REAL issue with these cars, the stock panhard bar. I removed the panhard setup altogether and put in a Watts link.

compared to new ones
And I'm not bashing Mustangs. I LOVE Mustangs.

5.5 sounds good

Like I said, stick a blower on it with some suspension work and run rings around the new ones ;)

WRONG.
![]() 01/29/2015 at 17:36 |

These things run high 13s, stock. I don't think you can call that slow.
